New Hopes..New Beginnings…

Posted: January 31, 2012 in Uncategorized

The 9th month of my pregnancy starts today. A lot have been happening over the last months. I will write a post on all that. I have decided to crack the news today, as I got wifi in my Lap today.

We are expecting the baby to come any day from today as the baby is low down. I wish to complete my full term..one more month..but god only knows when he/she is due..

Niya is too excited about the baby. She already calls it “Thuthu” and talks to it. Feels my stomach to feel the baby movements..She already calls herself  ”Ithatha”..the big sister.

We have decided to do tonsillectomy for her soon after my delivery.

I can’t sit too long..feels difficult…hope to update more soon..

Ni was there for the xmas carol. We were a bit late to school. She got only lill of the rose powder & makeups teachers put :-)

She sang “Santa clause is coming to town..”

“Omana poonkuruvikale…” and “Jingle “Bells..”

It was nice to watch the kids do “laathiri poothiri dance” and the skit.

The function was over by 10.30.

She enjoyed her vacation…mainly by sleeping very late…playing with Hd…and getting up very late too….

We had lots of pastries during our outings, she got her teeth checked, and played at DH ground, O Mall etc.

Today the school reopened..we had to get up at 6:00…It was hard to have breakfast early…and it took us 45 minutes for BF and 10 mintues to get ready…Phew!!

Hoping 2012 will bring lots of happiness, love , surprises and much more…..

Happy New Year

Ni had her KG Sports day at the school this saturday. She was there for March Past & Tunnel race. We(Me & my parents) reached her school at 8:00.The function started off with the march past. She was smiling nice and was happy to see us in the gallery. We were in the front row.UKG kids did an exercise and an aerobics show, which was nice & colourful. There were so many events like potato race, lemon and spoon race, running race, Musical chair etc.  Children who got class first were to participate in the events..We waited and waited. But the tunnel race was charted last. :( .

Children were supposed to pass under the tunnel formed by placing the chairs adjacently. She was class first for the same. So she had to compete with other class firsts. She was so tiny compared to other kids. But I hoped she could easily hop through the tunnel and was crossing my fingers for her to get atleast a third prize. The whistle blew…I waited and waited… focusing my camera, and praying at the same time. The kids arrived almost together. I felt she was fourth or so…anyways..she missed the prize..I was a bit disappointed ….Its ok anyways..

It was almost noon and we wanted to return fast. But they wouldnt leave the kids :( . Then they anoounced they have the classwise prize distibution…Yeah !!! She was to recieve a medal and a certificate…After some time I saw my kid standing in the Victory stand and recieved her first GOLD MEDAL ..It was a great moment for me..I was on top of the world…She was also soo thrilled to show us the medal.

Congrats my dear little girl …for this one and many more to come your way….

Good & Bad – 1

Posted: December 4, 2011 in Coloring, growing up

Let me write some of your bad habits Ni..

1. You need TV for having food.

2. You are very reluctant to try out new foods, how much ever I force you. This makes me sad when I prepare some new healthy tasty food at home. But you are ok to try out any junk food from outside. You dont like rice. You still have Kanji. You eat all breakfast items with sugar, though you like Kadala/Non items for Chappatis.
3. You are way too much addicted to cartoons. But thats ok..you do that since you have no other option at times.
4. You are a very slow eater and that eats up most of my time.
5. You behave naughty when we go out to buy this and that. And cry and spoil most of your times..and make us angry too.

Ok you are not entirely a bad girl..There are lot of good things in you my dear..

1.You are soo caring. You cant see tears in my eyes. You come and console me whenever you know I have some problem.
2. Great learner. You catch up things so fast. I dont have to force you to do your homework/ studies.
You get A+ and all stars for your assessments. You rarely get something wrong. Proud of you dear..
3. Love to help me in Kitchen..Loves to cut vegetables, cleaning, dishwashing and what not. I love the way you put your little chair to catch the pipe to do the cleaning. Though you soak your tops with soap lather..
4. You are mostly an obedient girl except attimes.

The Cadbury Ad

Posted: November 23, 2011 in Daily Rantings

The Cadbury ad had been going on in TV. The one in which the family is having dinner time. The grand daughter licks the chocolate  not to give t to her grandMa. I told Ni, that the girl in the add is a naughty girl. she doesnt give things to her Grand mom.

She replied to me instantly:

“Njan angine alla..njan vellummakku ellam kodukkum” (I am not like that. I will give everything to my grandmother)

and after a pause she said innocently “mathiyavumbozhe…” (When I am full..)

Oops ! Me & hus cudnt stop laughing for some time…

I was at home yesday. Ni came home by around 1.30. She was a good girl. She ate her lunch well. Its been some while since we had been to any park. So we thought of going to a nearby park. She hadnt slept in the noon..her daily dose..(Usually when she doesnt sleep at noon she behaves naughty ..she has durvashi to be exact..)Anyways,She was really happy and asked if I was taking her there because she had been a good girl.

She was soo excited to be at the park. Since it was a week day park was nearly empty except for a few people. There were no kids at all. So the park was almost entirely hers. She ran to the swing and swung high all by herself. That she has learned very recently (to swing by herself). She was moving from one ride to another and we let her freely, since there were practically no kids and we could see her if she moved to a distance. We had plans to spend only 1/2 and hour there as we had to go to a nearby plant nurselry which will close in 1/2 an hrs time. We called for her and she wouldn’t hear. She had just started her play :( . We told her we are going to another place and she wudnt hear that too. She said we are going home for sure. She wont come even if we dragged her. So we decided to let her play for one more round. But she was unhappy. She got the feeling we would go soon. She ran sadly towards the elephant and got up there.. From there she went to a slide. It was a very tall slide. She climbed on it quickly and started standing on the top and will not come down. She was asking us all to go. Me and mom was getting sad and angry for her behaviour. And suddenly she was telling she was going to jump. I was startled and schocked. My heart skipped and I dint know what to do.. I started bribing her that I would buy her Gems chocolate  if she come down. She looked very sad. I tried making fun of her saying she doesnt know how to slide down. Some how after 1 or 2 minutes she slided down ..And it was such a relief ..I carried her all the way back to the car.She was crying loud…

I donno what has tempted her to say a thing like that. Is it from TV she got the idea..Or she got the idea just like that ? God only knows..

Hope she never repeats anything like that ever again.  I have decided to be extra careful with her. Those scoldings/pinches/beatings may not work always..I have learnt that…Maybe she needs more of time from me or someoneelse …Maybe she needs more companionship….She sometimes watches too much TV…I am helpless at times as I have work to do and she has nothing to do or noone to playwith..All she can do is watch TV..And I let her do that..

I want to do some crafts with her ..Maybe we will participate in the Button crafts challenge in the mindful meanderings..

Hope everything turns out well and I wish and pray nothing like that happens ever again….

It was discovered recently that Ni has a very large tonsil. When she puts out the toungue outside I can see they are almost closed.
Doc said a large tonsil is making her infectious. She used to get fever every often and more than once she was admitted in hospital. They gave us a nasal spray and told to spray every night, and to do a follow up after 3 months. They told if it doesnt reduce they want to remove it off.  We showed her at Kottakkal Aryavaidyashala recently and they gave us ‘arishtams’ for improving her apetite. They prescribed a medicine called ‘Septilin’ which is supposed to reduce tonsillitis. We are strictly following it. She has sever cough now and we got medicines for that also. She has learned to spit out the sputum and daily I make her do that, whenever she has a cough. I have crossed my fingers, hoping it will end most of her health issues.

Her apetite has definitely improved. Not a lot though. She still hates rice and curry. We have almost stopped giving her Kanji & Fish. She preferrs chappaty and Channa Curry. Most of the days she has it. If there is Ghee rice she likes that. She is a true non vegetarian except for some juices. She is ok with having carrot, tomato beans juice. I blend all 3 and try to give it whenever I can. She loves all types of nuts and dry fruits. I try to give them regularly. Has 1 or 2 bananas (plantains) or the small ones even. Likes apple, orange, grapes.

She is an ardent lover of all junk food :( . Loves noodles, pasta, Maggi chicken soup, Pizza, KFC , almost anything that we get from shop. I always tell her I will have to marry he off to some one in US or Europe..:)

Anyways we are moving on…I hope she gains her normal weight soon and become healthy and little more chubby and me getting myself out from the situation where I feel each meal time is a scary nightmare….

And that one day…I hope Ni..you enjoy the real taste of rice & fishcurry..

School times

Posted: November 9, 2011 in Daughter, school

Its been a long while since I blogged. I had been extremely busy. I lost my camera. I bought a new one. I lost my internet connection. My laptop stopped working. So many things have happened in between..

Ni has been so excited to go to her classes in the first week. But soon she got fed up. She found out that LKG isn’t as fun as her playschool. She had much more to learn , to do homeworks, and some Arabic lessons as well. For th next month she was crying and begging me not to send her to school. I was so worried and sad. I talked to the class teacher on this and they told me not to worry and make it a big deal..that the child will get used to it. She was absolutely right..After 1 more month or so she started making friends and is no more sad to go to school. She is not very very excited either..

She does her homeworks neatly. Not at all lazy about that. But I need to monitor if she is writing it right, which is ok with both of us as long as it is not a busy weekend or Ni is ill.

“Eating well” is the greatest challenge that we are facing. I guess I will do another post on that.. a Long story..oh my Ni..

She did her first evr stage performance last week. A malayalam story telling competition. She did not practice well. So it was not a big hit. But teacher complimented she was confident infront of the mike, which was more than enough for me. “Orikkal oru naaya vishannu valanju nadakkuakayaayirunnu..Nadannu nadannu avan oru erachi kadayude munpilethy..erachi vettukaran avanu oru ellin kashnam koduthu..Appolu avan athu kadicheduthu….ennittu avan oru thadipalathinte aduthethu….thazhe vellathil oru nizhal kandu..athu vere oru naayanennu vicharichu….urakke kurachu bow bow bow….appolu ellin kashnam vellathil veenu…ithil ninnum enthu manasilakkam koottare…athyagraham aapathu”..hehe.. Next month she has the English story telling competition. Lets see how it goes. We havent selected a story yet.

L.K.G

Its been a month since Ni started her L.K.G.

It started on june 6th. Me and Hd took her to school. She was soo excited about this day. When we reached the KG section, it was very crowdy with all the parents waiting behind to check out their little ones. I knew I wudnt have much difficulty with her, since she was always excited to go to a place where she can play, can be with her age group.  I watched through the window, and found her sitting in a lill chair. Most of them were crying, and she was just watching. :-) . Parents had a meeting in the auditorium for an hour. I checked out on her after that and found that the kids were wearing caps. She was chewing on some chocolate.  She came near the window and waved at me.  She was quite comfortable. First and second day lasted for 3 hrs or so only.

What I found difficult in the beginning was to wake her up in the morning. To make her eat something and get her ready to school by 8:00 AM. But she was somewhat cooperating and we are getting better each day.

After 1 week of school, Ni got down with a very high fever. She refused to take antibiotics which were very bitter. So I had to get her admitted. She had IV , and we stayed there for 5- 6 days. They declared that she had a huge toncils & adenoids. Gave us a nasal spray. If it doesnt reduce we will have to get it removed. :( ..Hope it does.

She missed a weeks class and I was a bit worried if she will find it difficult to follow. I called the teacher after a day and she said Ni is picking up fast and thers no reason to worry. Thank God!

We had a close relatives marriage the weekend after we were out of hospital.  Ni had an Icecream from there.. I dint mind since it was in between a function. And I though it was just an icecream… 2 3 days later on our visit to another relative’s house, she had a cold orange soda. I cudnt stop her since I dint know she was drinking it.  One day later, she was again down with fever. I was scared since she got fever again at such short notice. Doc said she got the throat infection back. Her tonsils are such large that a minor infection can cause her problems. We have decided to take extra care. To give only warm/hot water. To make her gargle with salt water 1 or 2 times per day etc. Also she hates sleeping covered in a blanket. She somehow puts it away. This might have added up. Anyways I need to be extra careful.

Hope she survives everything well, else we will have to proceed on this minor surgery.

Today she is back to school.  Excited to show her first home assignment to G Miss.  Standing lines & Sleeping lines.

This is one of the questions Ni repeats a number of times these days. If she does something good, she eagerly asks me,  “Umma, I am good girl or a bad girl ? ” .  In the morning, when she gets up I try to make it a routine that she goes to toilet first and then do brushing as the first thing. Some days she is okay with it . Other days she rides off in her cycle saying she will do it later. The days when she does it correctly, she asks me the “Qn” , waiting to hear me say “Yes, Ni, you are a good girl !”. Whenever she does something naughty , I tell her that she is a very very bad girl. She sighs “Oh ! No !” , showing me a sad face and digging her head low.

Yesterday I had to cal her a “bad girl”. Ni usually sleeps for 2 hours or so at noon. These days she doesn’t want to sleep & want to play/ watch cartoons. It takes much effort for me/vPa to make her sleep at noon. She hadn’t slept yesterday at noon. So I thought I will get her to bed early and made her eat  dinner earlier, around 7. She was all tucked up in bed by 7:30- 8:00. After telling few bedtime stories, all imaginary ones created by me, I switched off light and went to kitchen, thinking she will sleep by herself within a short time.I was checking out at her after 15 minutes and she seemed to be  sleeping sound.
But she was lying at far end of the bed which made me suspicious that she was up to something. I switched on the light and she pretended to be sleeping. I understood she was up to something but couldn’t find anything. Then I noticed that the pillow was smeared on with some kind of paste. I saw the emptied Vaseline tin lying nearby. And I understood the whole crime story. I dint like the whole thing a bit and shouted at her that she is a very very bad disobeying girl and to do as she pleased the rest of the night. I dint look into any of her businesses from then on the whole night. I finished off the rest of the daily chores and wanted to sleep as fast as I was very tired. I dunno when she slept as I was fast asleep very soon. In the morning I watched her for some time innocently sleeping, thinking what all things she will be up to today.

Yes , Ni you are a good girl as well as a bad girl. :) , but my dear sweet girl
